Eradicating the Gaps
In Peru, as in many Latin American countries, education plays a fundamental role in the development of human beings, both individually and socially. However, reality shows us a sad truth: learning gaps remain a persistent problem that prevents many young people from reaching their full potential, so it is necessary to examine this problem and implement strategies to help overcome this challenge.

The traditional educational model in Peru is characterized by a teacher-centered approach, where information is transmitted in a unidirectional manner to students. This approach prioritizes memorization and repetition of concepts, leaving little room for critical thinking, which reduces the space for active student participation. In addition, this approach tends to use methods such as the master class, exposition of content, and evaluations through written exams. Although this approach has long predominated in the type of learning in schools, it is criticized for not fostering critical thinking, creativity, and student autonomy. With all this, we can say that this rigid approach does not adapt to the individual needs of each student, such as their learning pace and style, thus creating a system that excludes those who learn differently.
In order to eradicate learning gaps in Peru, a strategic approach that identifies the causes of this problem and promotes inclusion and equity is required. It is essential to start including after-school educational support programs for students who need help in specific areas, these programs should be accessible and tailored to the needs of each student. It is also essential to train teachers in the best way so that they learn about the different learning needs that a student may have, including those with disabilities or learning difficulties. Incorporating innovative technological tools is essential for personalized learning and access to quality educational resources, it is fundamental to ensure that all students, especially those living in marginalized areas, have access to these tools. Finally, the active participation of parents, mayors, and leaders of local organizations is critical to the success of any educational initiative. So it is necessary to create a space in which we can all dialogue to identify the needs of each district and work TOGETHER to find solutions.
Eradicating learning gaps in Peru sounds like a complex challenge, but not impossible. With perseverance, a strategic approach, the collaboration of everyone, and a willingness to innovate, we can build a better education system that allows all children and youth to reach their full potential. As Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world" , and by investing in equitable, quality education, we are building a brighter future for all.
